Incheon Strategy “Making The Right Real”

15 Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) were invited by Rehabilitation International (RI) Korea to go to Seoul on 5 – 6 March to review the draft of the Incheon Strategy which the High-Level Intergovernmental Group would discuss from 14 – 16 March before sending the document for its final reading and adoption in Incheon, South Korea from 29 October – 1 November. Due to the short notice, only 6 CSO’s could be present, including World Blind Union Asia-Pacific (WBUAP). They agreed to present a Consolidated Statement with a united voice.
On the eve of the High-Level Intergovernmental Meeting in Bangkok (13 March) the 15 CSO’s got together to put the final touches to their Consolidated Statement. The Consolidated Statement was presented, and other inputs by the Government Delegations were recorded for a new draft to be sent out by UNESCAP before July.

Regional Preparatory Meeting for the High-level Intergovernmental Meeting on the Final Review of the Implementation of the Asian and Pacific Decade of Disabled Persons, 2003-2012

The ESCAP Social Development Division organised the Regional Preparatory Meeting for the High-level Intergovernmental Meeting on the Final Review of the Implementation of the Asian and Pacific Decade of Disabled Persons, 2003-2012 (Bangkok, 14-16 March 2012), bringing together representatives of Governments of the ESCAP membership, civil society entities including the World Blind Union Asia-Pacific and members of the U nited Nations system to:
(a) Review the roadmap leading up to the High-level Intergovernmental Meeting on the Final Review of the Implementation of the Asian and Pacific Decade of Disabled Persons, 2003-2012;
(b) Follow up on the recommendation of the Committee on Social Development, at its second session (19-21 October 2010), for the Commission to proclaim, at it sixty-eighth session, a new decade to promote the rights of persons with disabilities, 2013-2022.

Regional Conference on raising awareness of the ASEAN Disability Forum (ADF): A platform of engagement for DPOs and multi-stakeholders to promote and implement the ASEAN Decade of Persons with Disabilities

March 28th- 31st, 2012

The Cambodian Disabled People’s Organization (CDPO) in collaboration with the Disabled Peoples’ International Asia Pacific (DPIAP) will organise the Regional Conference on raising awareness of the ASEAN Disability Forum (ADF). To promote the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) through ASEAN Decade of Persons with Disabilities, this conference sets the following objectives;

  1. To finalise ADF internal documents for accreditation by ASEAN Committee of Permanence Representatives (CPR);
  2. To increase knowledge, and awareness of the CRPD and World Report on Disability;
  3. To mainstream disability perspectives and recommendation into ACSC/APF outcome documents;
  4. To encourage all ASEAN governments to sign, ratify and implement the CRPD.

    The National Council for the Blind Malaysia (NCBM) will be organising This seminar from 3-5 May, 2012. The massage seminars are organised once every two years.     WBUAP Quadrennial Regional Assembly

    The WBUAP Quadrennial Regional Assembly will be held in the afternoon of 13 November 2012, during the WBUAP-ICEVI General Assemblies. More information will be issued after the WBUAP Joint Board And Policy Council Meeting in Kuala Lumpur on 4 May 2012.
